چکیده

We are concerned with the structural stability of dynamic phase changes occurring across sharp interfaces in a multidimensional van der Waals uid. Such phase transitions can be viewed as propagating discontinuities. However, they are usually subsonic, thus violating the Lax criterion. The lacking information lies in an additional jump condition, which is rather simple in the case of reversible phase transitions. This enabled us, in a previous work, to prove the weak linearized stability of reversible planar phase boundaries. This stability has to be understood in the sense introduced by Majda for shock fronts. It means that a generalized Lopatinski condition is satissed. The aim of this paper is to point out the innuence of viscosity on the stability of phase transitions. More speciically, we use the nondimensional parameter measuring the competition between viscosity and capillarity, to work by perturbation. We show that this parameter being positive stabilizes the phase transitions. We thus nd that dissipative planar phase boundaries are uniformly linearly stable, in the sense of the uniform Lopatinski condition.

Petri Net Supervisors for Des with Uncontrollable and Unobservable Transitions Petri Net Supervisors for Des with Uncontrollable and Unobservable Transitions

A supervisor synthesis technique for Petri net plants with uncontrollable and unobservable transitions that enforces the conjunction of a set of linear inequalities on the reachable markings of the plant is presented. The approach is based on the concept of Petri net place invariants. Each step of the procedure is illustrated through a running example involving the supervision of a robotic asse...

Gamma Convergence and Applications to Phase Transitions

1. Liquid–Liquid Phase Transitions Consider a fluid confined into a container Ω ⊂ R . Assume that the total mass of the fluid is m, so that admissible density distributions u : Ω→ R satisfy the constraint ∫ Ω u(x) dx = m. The total energy is given by the functional u 7→ ∫ Ω W (u(x)) dx, where W : R→ [0,∞) is the energy per unit volume. Assume that W supports two phases a < b, that is, W is a do...

A compressible mixture model with phase transition

We introduce a new thermodynamically consistent diffuse interface model of Allen–Cahn/Navier–Stokes type for multi-component flows with phase transitions and chemical reactions. For the introduced diffuse interface model, we investigate physically admissible sharp interface limits by matched asymptotic techniques. We consider two scaling regimes, i.e. a non-dissipative and a dissipative regime,...

Transformation From Legal-marking Set to Admissible-marking Set of Petri Nets With Uncontrollable Transitions

1  Abstract—Linear constraint transformation is an essential step to solve the forbidden state problem in Petri nets that contain uncontrollable transitions. This work studies the equivalent transformation from a legal-marking set to its admissible-marking set given such a net. First, the concepts of an escaping-marking set and a transforming marking set are defined. Based on them, two algorit...
